Eleanor Sather • 1909 - 2005 Eleanor L. Sather, 97, Velva, died Thursday, July 14, 2005 at the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva, ND. Eleanor was born June 7, 1908 to August and Eleanor Pretzer at the Family farm in North Prairie Township McHenry County, north of Velva, ND. She was raised there and attended the North Prairie country school. As a young adult she worked as a waitress at the Korthal Café in Velva, the Voltaire Café in Voltaire, and the Connor Hotel in Fessenden. On September 26, 1930 she married Martin Sather in Aberdeen, South Dakota. They made there home and living and raised two son's on a farm in North Prairie Township, north of Velva. In later years she again worked as a waitress at the Star Lanes in Velva. In June of 1977 Eleanor and Martin moved from the family farm into Velva. Martin died March 1, 1980. Besides being active on the farm and raising her family Eleanor was an avid bowler. For many years she organized the Velva Senior Citizens bowling league. She was a member of North Prairie Lutheran Church, the Velva Senior Citizens, and an honorary member of the Velva American Legion Auxiliary. She was a life member of the Sons of Norway in Simcoe, ND. Eleanor is survived by her youngest son, Alan Sather, Velva; daughter-in-law, Carole Sather-Brewer, Minot; grandsons, Dr. Jeffrey and Shelley Sather, Minot, and Lonnie and Rhonda Sather, Velva; granddaughter, Tammie and Bruce Mack, Surrey; 12 great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one sister, Clarise Rosa of South San Francisco, CA; one brother, Amos Pretzer, Rolla, Missouri. A host of nieces and nephews and seven god children. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Martin Sather; her eldest son, Marlin Sather; her great-great-granddaughter, Arryanna Sather-Bennett; sisters, Della Reynolds, Pearl Peterson, and Hattie Hystad; brothers, Sidney, Ernest, William and Frank Pretzer. Funeral: Monday, July 18, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva. Visitation: Sunday, July 17, 2005, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva, ND. Burial: Monday at 2:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
