Alan Sather 1940- 2006


Alan Sather, 65, 8010 County Rd.15 W., Minot, ND, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in a Minot hospital.

Alan LeRoy Sather was born on September 11, 1940, the son of Martin and Eleanor (Pretzer) Sather on the family farm which was located in North Prairie Township of McHenry County, ND. He attended North Prairie Township School and graduated from Velva High School in 1959.

Alan married Lois Martinson on April 7, 1966, at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, ND. They made their home on a farm near Velva. They were later divorced.

Alan farmed most of his life and also worked for the ND Highway Department, Vix Coal Mine, and various area farmers. Most recently he was employed by C.F. Industries in Velva until ill health forced him to retire in August of 2004.

He was a member of North Prairie Lutheran Church, Simcoe, ND. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother and nephews, and also enjoyed coin collecting.

Surviving family includes: sister-in-law, Carole Sather-Brewer, Minot; nephews, Jeff (Shelley) Sather, Minot, and Lonnie (Rhonda) Sather, Velva; niece, Tammie (Bruce) Mack, Surrey; former wife, Lois Larson, Velva; aunt, Susie Rosa, S. San Francisco, CA; uncle, Amos Pretzer, Rolla, Missouri; and several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marlin; and great-niece, Aryanna Sather.

Funeral: Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.

Interment: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND.

Visitation: Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.
