John Sand • 1915 - 2008 John was born on November 22, 1915, a son of John and Johanna Sand in ND. At a young age he moved to Berthold, ND where he was raised by John and Anna Biestline. In 1938, he was united in marriage to Josephine Edwardson. To this union four children were born, Jim, Janet, jerry and Joleen. John farmed south of Berthold for a time. On April 28, 1972, John was united in marriage to Selma "Sally" Johnson. Following their marriage, they lived in Minot where John worked as an engineer at Trinity Hospital, retiring after 26 years of service. Sally died October 26, 1998. Following her death, John continued to live in Minot, with Mary DeGroat, his special companion. John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. He is survived by: Children: Jim (Corky) Sand, Minot, Janet (special friend, Rick) Sand, Isle, MN, Joleen Dice, Minot, step-son Ronald Schnaible, Tampa, FL. 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Selma, son Jerry, four sisters and one brother. Visitation: Monday, September 15, 2008 from 2-7 and Tuesday from 9-noon at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
