Larry J. Sanders 1937 - 2010
Larry J. Sanders, 73, died Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Larry was born to Donovan and Gertrude (Taul) Sanders on Aug 31st, 1937. He was raised on the family farm in Waterford Township of Ward County with his 7 brothers and sisters until they moved to Minot in 1949. He graduated from Model High in 1955.
Larry married Sandra Jacobson in January 1964, and they lived on the family homestead in Waterford Township with Jeffrey and Michael, Larry’s sons from a previous marriage to Mary Bearden. Larry and Sandra had two daughters, Dawn and Staci, and one son Troy. Larry farmed on the family farm until 2000, but he had also worked at Nielson Motors, Minot Implement, and Jessen Roofing during his career years.
Larry and Sandra attended Trinity Free Church, where Larry was an active participant in many areas. Larry also enjoyed assisting family and friends in a variety of practical matters, such as blowing snow for neighbors, sitting with ailing friends, and caring for grandchildren. Larry enjoyed sharing his love of nature with his grandkids, and spent many hours watching and photographing playful squirrels and wood ducks in the park-like backyard he shared with Sandy.
Larry took great joy in camping with family and friends, where he watched the deer play and fed the squirrels Cheetos. Larry was a great craftsman and created many wonderful items. He loved working with wood and designed shelves, stools and decorative accents for many people. Larry also enjoyed creating stained glass windows to display and share with friends and family.
Many memories were created while Larry shared everyday moments with his children and grandchildren. From trips to Menards and Ace Hardware for odds and ends to helping them learn to play card games and dominoes, Larry enjoyed the time that they spent together.
Larry will be greatly missed by all that were blessed to have shared his life.
