Margaret E. Salo 1910 - 2003 Margaret E. Salo, 93, Minot ND, died Friday, August 25, 2003, at a Coeur d' Alene, Idaho assisted living center. She was born on July 8, 1910, near Superior, Wisconsin, the daughter of Arthur and Nina (Gatten) Cedar. Her family moved to Tagus, ND, where her father was a section foreman for the Great Northern Railroad. She graduated from High school in Tagus and went to Minot State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. Margaret taught school in the Stanley area until she married Arne Salo on July 8, 1931, in Stanley, ND. He worked for the Great Northern Railroad until his retirement in 1969. When first working for the railroad, they lived in several towns in North Dakota and Minnesota until they settled in Minot, where they stayed until his retired. Margaret worked for J.C. Penny's in downtown Minot for quite a few years before she retired. Arne died on August 21, 1989, in Minot. She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was also active with the Church Choir, Circle and "Soup Kitchen, which fed the homeless on Fridays." Margaret worked in her yard and garden for years, and was proud of the way it looked. She lived in her own home until she was 91 years old. A fact she was very proud of. Survivors: five children, Karen Melius, Coeur d' Alene, Dale Salo and his wife Becky, Becker, MN, Allan Salo, Orion, MI, Linda Dohrmann and her husband Fred, Oregon, OH, and Dennis Salo and his wife Misako, Tokyo, Japan; grandchildren; Greg Melius and his wife Lisa, Vancouver, WA, Laura Beusan and her husband Bob, Randy Melius and his wife Debbie, David Melius, and Brian Melius and his wife DeAnn, Chris Melius, all of Coeur d' Alene, Carly Shellhammer and her husband Phil, Boston, MA, Michael Dohrmann and his wife Rachel, Toledo, OH, Jennifer Salo, Florida State University, and Diana Salo, Boca Raton, FL; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, and Parker Melius, all of Vancouver, WA, Benjamin, Carly, Brett, Kyle, Tanner, and Hayden Melius, all of Coeur d' Alene and Robbie and Wesley Beusan, both of Coeur d' Alene; great-great-grandchild, Conner Melius, Coeur d' Alene. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arne, son, Mervyn Salo and her sisters, Olive, Vera, Verna, and Audrey. Funeral Service: Thursday, August 28, 2003, at 2 p.m.
