Alf E. Sagness 1918 - 2009 Alf was born July 26, 1918, near Calmer, Iowa, to Ingard and Evidia (Heimdal) Sagenes. On February 9, 1929 he moved with his family to the Bowbells area. He graduated from Bowbells High School in 1937. On September 21, 1941, Alf married Arlene A. Nelson at Coteau, ND. They purchased a farm near Bowbells on December 7, 1941. On June 15, 1942, Alf was drafted into the United States Army. He served with the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to the family farm, where they raised their family and farmed in the Bowbells and Coteau areas their entire lives. Arlene passed away on October 12, 1988, following a six month bout with cancer. Alf was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bowbells, and for many years he cooked Lutefisk for the annual church supper. Alf could do, or fix anything and was a supporter of his family and church. Those who shared in his life, sons, Ron (Allie) Sagness, Bowbells, ND, and Wes (Mitsie) Sagness, Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Mardelle (Keith) Tamashiro, Kaneohe, HI; six grandchildren, Kristen (Paul) Olsen, Pamela (Rob) Schmit, Laura (Cory) Magnuson, Jon Sagness, Janelle (Tim) Stevens and Kelsi Tamashiro; three great-grandchildren, Evan Schmit, and Greta and Luke Olsen; three nieces and four nephews survive. Alf was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; son, Darrell, and his parents. Funeral: Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bowbells, ND. Visitation: Tuesday, one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial: Bowbells Cemetery, Bowbells, ND. Officiating Clergy: Rev. The family will join you when they return from the cemetery. Alf's family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown during this difficult time.
