Ryba 1920 - 2002 Clarence "Cal" Melvin Ryba, 81, 3515 10th St SW, Apt. 157, Minot, died Friday, April 5, 2002, in a Minot nursing home. He was born June 7, 1920, in Lawton, ND, the son of Gus and Anna (Stejskal) Ryba. He was reared and educated in Lankin, ND. He entered the United States Air Force on February 18, 1942, in Fort Snelling, MN, serving with the 903rd Service Squadron 53rd Service Group during World War II. He served in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He received a battle star for anti submarine patrol and the European Africa Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 29, 1945. He married Lily Clary on November 18, 1950. The couple later divorced in 1965. Clarence lived in the Fargo and in the Great Falls, MT area where he worked as a welder for six years then he returned to Minot. He loved horseshoes, bowling, gardening and volunteering. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Horseshoe Club of which he won many tournaments, and he was active with the Disabled American Veterans of Foreign Wars of which he was named the most outstanding member in 1974. He was a charter member and life member of the Minot AMVETS Post #10, and was also a member of the American Legions and the Moose Lodge all of Minot. Survivors: daughter, Mary Ryba Severson, Minot; 2 grandchildren, Nicole and Eric Severson. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy, his parents, 4 brothers, Jerome, Randolph, Ernest and Raymond; sister, Caroline and son-in-law, Thomas Severson. Memorials are preferred to the donors choice. Funeral Service: Friday, April 12, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. Visitation: Thursday, April 11, 2002, from 9a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park.
