Virginia F. Ryan 1916 - 2008

Virginia F. Ryan, Minot, formerly of Flint, MI, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 in a Minot nursing home.

Virginia Frances (Ginny) Ryan was born on February 7, 1916, in Bay City, MI. Ginny was the oldest child of Michael and Irene Ryan's four children. She graduated from St. Michael's High School in Flint, MI. Virginia attended nursing school at Leila Post Montgomery Hospital in Battle Creek, MI, where she graduated, August 28, 1937 as a Registered Nurse. Virginia worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Flint, MI, from September 1937 to March of 1942. In June of 1942, she began working for General Motors at the Fisher Body Plant in Flint, MI as a nurse. At the time of her retirement, March 1, 1975, Ginny was the head nurse at Flint #1 Plant.

Virginia loved her family. Her fondest memories were when she visited her siblings and their families as they all gathered at one of the lakes in the great state of Michigan. She was known for her love and generosity towards each of her family members. Her nieces and nephews always considered her their favorite "Auntie".

Virginia loved to travel and one of her favorite places was Majorca, Spain. She also traveled with friends and family, almost annually, to Sarasota, Florida. Reading was another one of her loves. Her family will always remember Virginia with a book in her hands.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Anne and former brother-in-law, Robert McGovern and his wife, Donna, eight nieces and four nephews, and 24 grandnieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Frances (Fran) and Elizabeth (Bette) and her husband Wayne, and her brother, James "Jim".

Virginia will be remembered as a strong, independent woman with a great ability to love and care for anyone in need, but also with a wonderful sense of humor. She will be missed.

Visitation: Friday, November 14, 2008, from 5-7 at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Vigil Prayer Service: Friday at 7 pm in the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 11 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church

Burial: New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Flint, MI

Memorials are preferred to the Minot Catholic Schools Foundation or St. John Bianne Catholic Church in Flint, MI.
