Kay Ruppert 1931 - 2008

Kay Ruppert, 77, Minot, died Monday, December 29, 2008 in her home.

Kay was born on August 10, 1931, the daughter of Delbin and Pearl (Russell) Gibbs. She attended school in Crosby and graduated from Crosby High School in 1949. She married Charles L. Ruppert on August 14, 1949 in Crosby. They lived in Crosby until Charles moved the family to Sanish, ND, when he began teaching. When the Garrison dam was constructed, they moved to New Town, ND where Charlie taught and coached for 40 years. Kay was a wife and homemaker, caring for six children. She later worked at a retail department store which she loved. She had a flare for clothing and accessorizing and had many customers who were loyal and sought out her advice.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, ladies aide, American Legion Auxiliary, Beta Sigma Phi and Edgewater Golf Course. Kay became an avid golfer when she was in her 50's, winning Edgewater's Women's Senior Championship two years in a row. When Kay was 60 years old, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Like millions of other people with this disease, Kay was cared for by her loving husband and family. Kay died December 29, 2008 at her home from complications due to Alzheimer's. Caring for Kay all these years has changed all of the families lives. Love is the one thing that will last and it will endure beyond any cruel disease, beyond memory, beyond life itself.
