Louis "Uncle Louie" Rubbelke 1923 - 2005

Louis "Uncle Louie" A. Rubbelke, 81, 213 23rd ST. NW, Minot, formerly of Des Lacs, ND, died Sunday, September 11, 2005, in his home.

He was born on October 11, 1923, south of Des Lacs in Vang Township, Ward County, the son of Louis and Gertrude (Sieben) Rubbelke. He was reared and educated in that area and assisted his parents on the farm. Louis graduated from Berthold High School in 1940, at the age of 16.

On April 18, 1946, Louis entered the United States Army, serving during the United States occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged on May 4, 1947. After his discharge, he returned to North Dakota and farmed with his brothers, Edward and Francis, south of Des Lacs.

Louis moved to Vancouver, WA, where he was employed in the paper mill industry for a brief time. He moved back to North Dakota and continued to farm with his brother Francis. He lived with Francis's family from 1958 until 1984. Louis moved to Minot in 1984, and continued to farm until his retirement in 1988.

Louis was a member of St. John The Apostle Catholic Church where he served as an usher for over 20 years, The Holy Name Society, the Makoti American Legion, and served on the Des Lacs Elevator Board of Directors. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, a past member of the Eagles Aerie and the Moose Lodge in Minot and St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Des Lacs.

Louis loved spending time with people and always commented on how fortunate he was to have such a large family even though he never married.

Survivors: brother, Edward (Marcella) Rubbelke, Vancouver, WA; and sister-in-law, Rosella Rubbelke, Minot. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Francis, Eugene, Leo, and infant brother Bernard and sisters, Hildegard Lautenschlager, Deloris Rubbelke, Leona Rubbelke and Genovieve Rubbelke.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, September 15, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Rosary Recitation and Prayer Service: Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation: Wednesday, September 14, 2005, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
