Annie Jane Rovenko 1920 - 2006 Annie Jane Kizima was born on July 3, 1920 in Kief, ND to Laurenty and Agnes (Perekrestenko) Kizima. She attended school in the country and Kief and graduated from high school in Drake, North Dakota. After receiving a two-year teaching certificate from Minot State College she taught rural schools in Kief and Max areas. She later graduated from Minot State with a BS Degree in Elementary Education and Education with a Minor in Russian Foreign Language and a double major in Home Economics. Annie taught high school in Powers Lake, Beulah and Riverdale, ND until retiring from teaching. After marrying Paul Rovenko in 1945 in the Mennonite Brethren Church, Kief, ND she moved to Max, ND to continue teaching. In 1946 Paul and Annie bought a general store with brother-in-law Gordon and Mary Lushenko, but after two years Paul sold his share to return to farming and Annie to teaching. Paul passed away on January 28, 1985. Annie's strong faith was central to her life. For over 25 years she was involved in religious teaching in Mennonite Brethren Church and Good News Clubs. Annie also volunteered at Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Thrift Store and was very active with church related ministries including Sunday school and Women's Mission Society. She was active in the Max Baptist Church until the beginning of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Minot in 1950 where she was a charter member. She also served on Child Evangelism Fellowship Board for over 30 years and was a member of Homemakers Club. Annie loved to sing. During her younger years she sang Russian Hymns with husband Paul and Paul's sister Kathryn and Fred Strilcov at numerous funeral services, Harvest Festivals and other events. She enjoyed sewing and was known for her flowers and gardening abilities. Survived by: Daughter Sherelyn (Gary) Ritchie, Max ; Son NcLair (Dolores) Rovenko, Tulsa, OK; Grandchildren: Adam and Charity Ritchie; Emily, Molly and Nicholas Rovenko; Brother: Peter (Dolores) Kizima, Minot; Sister: Mary Lushenko, Max; Many nieces and nephews; Sisters-in-law: Mabel Kizima, Minot and Marguerite Kizima, Kief. Those preceding her in death: Husband Paul; Parents; Brothers Lawrence, Jack, William; Sisters Gladys, Violet, Lena. Funeral: Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Bible Fellowship Church, Minot Burial: Max Baptist Cemetery, Wednesday August 16, 2006 at 4:30 p.m. Visitation: Tuesday, August 15, 2006, from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Memorials are preferred to Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), Gideons International or Bible Fellowship Church, Minot. Officiants: Pastor Duane Deckert, Morris Erickson, Pastor Andy Perry Music Honorary Bearers: All of Annie's family and friends Adam, Annie's grandson could not be here today because he is serving his country in the North Dakota National Guard in Iraq.
