Lorayne Ross 1920 - 2011

Lorayne Beatrice Golden was born on October 23, 1920 in Faribault, Minnesota, a daughter of Roger and Lillian (Mechenich) Golden. She was raised in St. Cloud, MN, and at 15 years old her father died. Lorayne  graduated in 1938 from St. Cloud Tech School. Lorayne, known as “Sissy” to her only sister Rayo, cared for their mother. Lorayne worked for Northwestern Bell for 10 years as a long distance telephone operator.

Her sister introduced her to the love of her life, Leander Frank Ross. They were married on September 4, 1948 in St. Cloud, at St. Mary’s Cathedral. They moved to Minot, ND where Lee started his lifelong profession as an architect. They were blessed with two children. Michael Roger entered the world on July 31, 1950 and Kathleen Mary on February 7, 1956. Leander died March 22, 1989.

Lorayne loved family time at their lake cabin on Lake Sakakawea. They built this cabin in 1956, and she treasured weekends there through this past summer. She was a charter member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, which was designed by the Ross Architectural Firm. She spent many hours serving in the Altar Society and working in the kitchen. Lorayne was grateful to live in a loving adult care home with Patty Ballard and her family and dedicated staff for the past 3 1/2 years.

Lorayne is survived by: her son Mike (JoAnn) Ross, of Williston, daughter Kathy (Myron) Feist, of Minot; Grandchildren Erin (Kory) Anderson of Stanley, Eric Ross of Forest Grove, Oregon, Stephanie Feist (fiancee: Kyle Millar), of Davenport, Iowa.

Lorayne  was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leander , sister Rayo, many precious relatives and friends.

Visitation: Monday, October 3, 2011 from 2-7 at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Vigil Prayer Service:  Monday at 7 pm in Thompson Larson Funeral Home Chapel, located at 21 3rd Ave SW, Minot, ND

Mass of Christian Burial:  Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 10 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
