Lucille Mae Ross 1914 - 2005

Lucille Mae Ross, 90, 600 South Main St., Minot, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, in a Minot nursing home.

Lucille was born February 25, 1914, in Lansford, ND, the daughter of William and Jessie (Crane) Underwood. She was raised and educated in Lansford, and graduated from Lansford High School. While growing up Lucille helped cook for area farmers and also babysat for area families.

On September 23, 1933, Lucille married Vern K. Ross, in Lansford, ND. They made their home in the Surrey, Logan and Burlington areas, where Vern farmed and where she raised their children. In 1956 they moved to Minot.

Lucille worked as a cook at the Speedway restaurant for a number of years and later at Minot Steam Laundry. She than cooked at the Eat Shop in downtown Minot. She managed Woolworth's lunch counter for several years and than managed the Glenburn restaurant for a time.

Beginning in the late 60's Lucille enjoyed doing daycare for her grandchildren in Minot, which she continued to do until they were old enough to care for themselves. She retired but continued to do daycare from time to time.

On March 3, 1993 her husband Vern died. Lucille continued to live in Minot, and the last 3 ½ years had been a resident at ManorCare.

Lucille and her husband were former members of the Eagle's Aerie in Minot.

Survivors: Daughter, Dolores Wagner, Minot, and son, William (Mary Ann) Ross, Minot; eight grandchildren, LuVern Wagner, Peter Wagner, William Ross, Jr., David Ross, Richard Ross, Thomas Ross, Gerald Ross and Kari Stoddard; 25 great-grandchildren, Shawn Wagner, Jason Soronen, Justin Soronen, Jonathan Lundgren, Michael Wagner, Hayley Wagner, David Ross, Andrea Ross, Alexis Ross, Jacob Ross, Annika Ross, Adam Ross, Brandon Ross, Ryan Cowles, Nathan Ross, Kayla Ross, Austin Ross, Mikayla Ross, Anthony Ross, Kimberlyn Ross, McKinzie Ross, Michael Ross, Spencer Ross, Benjamin Stoddard and Cameron Stoddard; sisters, Wilda "Bobby" Hovey, Grenada, Mississippi, and Vivian (Arthur) O'Connell, Minot; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jessie Underwood; brothers, Victor, Cecil and Kenneth Underwood, and older twin sister, Wilma "Billy" Steinberg.

Memorial Service: Monday, February 21, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register, Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to service at the funeral home.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, later in the spring.
