Robert R. Romine 1932 - 2006

Robert R. Romine, 74, 566-28th Ave. SW, who lived most of his life in Minot, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, in a Minot hospital.

He was born May 29, 1932, in Minot, a son of Russell C. and Clarice (Peerboom) Romine. He was raised in Minot and in Silva, where the family lived for several years before returning to Minot in the mid-1940s. In 1950, he graduated from St. Leo's High School where he earned a letter in jitterbug. He was a student at Minot State University prior to enlisting in the Air Force, where he served four years during the Korean Conflict.

He returned to Minot following his discharge, and became employed in the trust department of Great American Royalties, working in the company's office at Mohall. It was there that he met Molla B. Witteman. After four months of working together, he asked her out. He proposed marriage on that first date, she said yes, and they were married April 26, 1957. That first date lasted nearly 50 years.

Not long after they were married, the Romines moved to Minot where they since have lived. He went to work with Dakota Drug and Midco Data Systems where he was a programmer/systems analyst for 37 years prior to retirement in 1996.

Partners in much that they did, Bob and Molla were among the first lectors at Little Flower Catholic Church when that ministry was started in the Minot church. The pair also participated as parents in SEARCH youth retreats at Richardton, ND, a program geared for unmarried people aged 16 and older that promotes Christian maturity. In addition, Bob was active in bringing the Diocese of Bismarck Cursillo program to Minot, an ongoing formation of faith initiative for Catholic adults. He also was a volunteer in Trinity Medical Center's Hospice Program. And he often walked the campaign trail with his wife in her capacity as a Ward County commissioner.

He was active as an organizer of St. Leo's High School all class reunions, with particular focus on the Class of '50. A day at Romines' Rice Lake home became a tradition for class members. All alumni are invited by the Romine family to serve as honorary pallbearers at his funeral.

He was the recipient of the "R" Award from Bishop Ryan High School, the Friend of Public Health Award from the First District Health Unit and the St. Leo's Alumni of the Year Award.

He is survived by his wife Molla; daughter Molla K. (Ben) Maytubby, Odessa, TX; sons, Robert C. (Patti) Romine, Jackson, MS, and David M.
