Ruby (Routledge Kelly) Rhoads 1920 - 2011 Ruby graduated from the Lansford Public School in 1938. She was employed at the Hampton Roads Port of Embarkation, at Newport News, VA and at the Banecia Arsenal Quartermasters Office at Benicia, CA during WWII. [Ruby married Lawrence Russell Kelly in 1944???? They were later divorced.] Ruby married Lester David Rhoads on June 1, 1952 (son of David Zook Rhoads born Nov. 4, 1879 in Mercersburg, PA-died Jan. 12, 1957) and Ada Pricilla (Wagoner) Rhoads (born Oct. 29, 1882 in Owasco, IN-died Oct. 2, 1954 in Minot, ND). Ruby and Lester were married in the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Minot, ND. They were members of the Glenburn Baptist Church of Glenburn and First Baptist Church of Minot. Ruby and Lester farmed the Rhoads family homestead, established in 1902 near Glenburn, ND in Ensign Township, Renville County. They farmed until their retirement in 1981 and continued to live on the family farm after retirement. Ruby spent several years of her retirement researching and writing the Routledge Family History, which was printed in 1987. That volume traces the descendants of her grandfather, Charles Richardson George Routledge, as well as family ancestors back to the mid 1700s in England and Scotland. She helped organize a Routledge family reunion in 1987 at the Lansford, ND, Country Club, attended by relatives from across North Dakota, California and Canada. She also researched a Rhoads family history, which is yet unpublished. She is survived by brothers Charles Clayton Routledge, Glenburn; William Merle Routledge, Lansford; and Floyd Arthur (Babe) Routledge, Rochester, MN; daughters, Avis Marie (Rhoads) Veikley and Debra Lynn (Rhoads) Jensen, both of Minot; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby’s funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ on North Broadway in Minot, ND. Visitation: Monday, August 8, 2011 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, rural Glenburn, ND.
