Valerie Rae Redding 1956 - 2005

Valerie Rae Redding, 49, Anchorage, AK, died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at her home surrounded by her family and friends following a long illness.

Valerie was born in LaRochelle, France on April 30, 1956 to William "Nick" and Elfriede Nichols. Her family moved to Delta Junction, Alaska in 1967, where she graduated from Delta Junction High School in 1975. She worked on the Alaska Pipeline from 1975 to 1980.

In 1980 she moved to Fairbanks where she worked for Mark Air and then moved to Anchorage in 1984. At Mark Air she met the love of her life, Dale Redding and they married in 1985. In 1995 she operated a daycare business out of her home until 2000, when she retired due to illness.

Valerie enjoyed crafts, skiing, softball, fishing and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Her family says, "Valerie was a special gift from God and touched everyone she met with her friendly smile and genuine love of life. Always the first to offer a helping hand and the last to complain about troubles, she accepted her problems with a quiet determination and open heart. Her faith, family and friends, lifted her up over the years and were with her to the end of this leg. She will be desperately missed and forever loved."

Valerie is survived by her husband, Dale Redding of 20 years; sons, Michael and Devon Redding, all of Anchorage; mother, Elfriede Nichols; sister and brother-in-law, Penny and James Ressler, all of Wasilla, AK; brother and sister-in-law, Jonny and Sherry Nichols, Palmdale, CA; mother and father-in-law, Magdelyn and Lowell Redding; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sheila and Leonard Mattern, Mavis and Kim Edwards, and Allen and Christi Redding, all of North Dakota; Keith Redding, Phoenix, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, William "Nick" Nichols; brother, Tommy Nichols and an infant sister.

Funeral: Monday, November 28, 2005 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Donnybrook, ND, with Father Frank Schuster officiating. A memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Anchorage, AK.

Visitation and Vigil Prayer Service: Visitation will be Sunday, November 27, 2005 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m., in the church.

Burial: St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Donnybrook, ND.
