Gerald L. "Jerry" Ramsdell 1929 - 2003

Gerald L. "Jerry" Ramsdell, 73, 3100 11th Ave SE, #A-5, Minot, ND, died Thursday, January 2, 2003, in his home.

He was born on December 21, 1929, on the family farm of his parents, Zina A. and Alice M. (Jackson) Ramsdell, near Norma, ND. He attended Norma Grade School and Kenmare High School, where he was a member of the football team and graduated in 1948. He went to work for the Norma Elevator and later at the elevator in Perilla, ND, near Bowbells, ND. He enlisted in the US National Guard, and was activated to service duty in the US Army in Camp Rucker, AL, from 1951 through 1953. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to North Dakota. He married Carol Jean Taylor on June 8, 1952, in Surrey, ND. He worked for the Great Northern Railway for a time. He went to work as a grain elevator operator, and eventually manager for 40 years in Carbury, Greene, Voltaire, Temvik, Linton, and Sawyer, ND. He retired from the grain business in 1992. He continued to live in Minot and worked as a greeter at Walmart until the time of his death.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Surrey, ND, a former member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, Messiah Lutheran Church, Greene and Peace Lutheran Church, Linton. He served on several church boards and organizations during his memberships. He was a member of the Surrey Senior Citizens. He was a former member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club, the Moose Lodge and the Moose Horseshoe League, all of Minot. He was a league bowler for many years in Kenmare, Lansford and Minot. He was a Boy Scout leader in Lansford and Tolley for several years.

Survivors: Wife, Carol Ramsdell, Minot; sons, Steven Ramsdell and Gerald M. Ramsdell, both of Minot; daughters, Cynthia (Edward) Geyer, Laurel Ramsdell and Colleen Ward, all of Minot, and Kristi Ramsdell, San Mateo, CA; 10 grandchildren, Jenny (Jason) Carman, Lisa (Charlie) Kemery, Jordan and Taylor Ramsdell, Geron Ramsdell, Derrick Ward, Jason (Crissy) Geyer and Andrew, Nanci and Jordan Geyer; 3 great-grandchildren, Nigel and Gwendalynn Geyer and Alexander Kemery; brothers, Gene Ramsdell and Larry Ramsdell, both of Kenmare, Denny Ramsdell, Powers Lake, ND, and Harlan (Marie) Ramsdell, Creswell, OR; sisters, Shirley (Kenneth) Nelsen, Everett, WA, and Janet (Bill) Otten, Lynnwood, WA; 5 aunts, Corrine Sprague, Everett, Violet DePue, Buffalo, WY, Elinor Ramsdell, Tioga, ND, Evy Hansen, Everett, and Evie Hansen, Lake Havasu, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents, brothers, Kenneth, Deral, Rodney, an infant boy, and sister, Janice Ramsdell, preceded him in death.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, January 7, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, Surrey, ND.

Visitation: Monday, January 6, 2003, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
