Patricia M. "Patsy" Purdy 1922- 2006


Patricia M. "Patsy" Purdy, 84, Minot, died Thursday, August 3, 2006, in a Minot nursing home.

Patricia was born November 20, 1922 in Minot, ND, the daughter of Mark A. and Edna Marie (LaFleur) Purdy. She was raised in Minot, attending Roosevelt Elementary School and St. Leo's High School where she graduated in 1939. Following graduation she attended Minot Business College.

She enlisted in the United States Army Women's Auxiliary Corps during World War II and was stationed in Arkansas. Following her honorable discharge she moved to Washington State and worked in the Bremerton ship yards, and later worked for Bell Telephone in Seattle as an operator.

Patsy returned to Minot and lived with her widowed mother and her younger brothers at the longtime Purdy family residence at 619 9th Ave. NE. Patsy who never married was a pillar of devotion to her mother and provided valuable support during the years of her brothers' education.

Patsy worked at various businesses over the years, including, the Minot Daily News, Minot City Hall, Holmes Electric, Rhinhard Brothers, Midwest Motor Express, and she worked at her brother, Dr. Paul A. Purdy's dental office for eight years until her retirement.

She continued to live at the family home until September 1, 2001 when she moved to Brentmoor of Minot. She entered Trinity Homes two weeks ago where she since had lived.

Patsy was a life-long member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, and the Marion Choir under Father Nelson.

Survivors: Brothers, Mark F. (Clarice) Purdy, Minot, James N. (Marlys) Purdy, Bismarck, and Dr. Paul A. Purdy, Minot. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Mark A. and Edna Purdy; brother, Michael L. Purdy; sisters-in-law, Mary Purdy, Pauline Purdy and Elaine Purdy, and a niece, Diane Vanlaningham.

Funeral: Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Vigil prayer service: Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Visitation: Wednesday from noon to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home.

Memorials preferred to St. Leo's Catholic School, Minot.
