Ruth J. Purcell 1923- 2006


Ruth J. Purcell, 82, Minot, died Sunday, September 3, 2006, in a Minot nursing home.

Ruth Ray was born on November 5, 1923, the daughter of William Joseph Ray and Cloria Angie (Turner) Ray in Bolivar, MO. She was baptized in Springfield, MO, and attended school in Springfield.

On March 17, 1943, she was united in marriage to Roland Oldham. She was married to Arthur Chester Purcell on December 26, 1967.

Ruth lived in Minot, where she was employed with Shoppers Corner from 1962, until it closed, when she worked for Fashion City until 1963. She then moved to Kansas City, MO; where she lived and worked until March 1984, when she returned to Minot. In Minot, she was employed Holiday Inn, JC Penney Company, and Ace Hardware. In the early 1990's she sold Tupperware.

She is survived by: Daughter: Rita Jo Newport and husband, Neil, Minot: grandchildren: Brenda Newport, Indianapolis, IN, Cheryl and Pete Richter, Minot, Shane and Brandi Newport, Minot: great-grandchildren: Amanda Blood and her husband James, stationed in Germany; Koral Rose, Jordyn and Reese Corbin Richter, Minot; Riley James and Tenlee Morgen Newport, Minot: brother: Leroy Ray and his wife, Cecellia, Springfield, MO
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Ruth was preceded in death by, her parents, two husbands, son Jerry Wayne, sisters and brother

Visitation: Tuesday, (today) September 5, 2006 from Noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Homes Chapel, Minot

Immediately following the funeral service there will be coffee and bars served at the rear of the chapel.

Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Rosehill Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m. There will be no formal procession.
