Richard Priess 1926 - 2010 Richard “Dick” Myron Priess was born August 26, 1926, a son of Alfred W. and Esthere H. (Lindstrom) Priess, in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. He was raised and educated in Red Wing, MN, then in Northfield, MN. He and his family moved to Minot in 1942. He graduated from Minot High School in 1944. Richard enlisted in the United States Army December 11, 1944, at Fort Snelling, MN. He went to basic training at Camp Hood, Texas, and proudly served his country in Japan during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on November 26, 1946, at Fort Lewis, Washington. Richard married Valerie J. Heere March 7, 1948, at First Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where he was employed by Holmes Electric as a master electrician and as an estimator. He later was promoted to vice-president. After working there for over 27 years, he went to work as the manager of the engineers for Trinity Medical Center in Minot for the next 12 years. . He was a member of the I.B.E.W. #714 for over 60 years. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher captain, vice-president of the church council, president of the Men’s Club and councilor for the Hi League. He was a former member of the Mr. and Mrs. Club at First Lutheran Church, as well as the Elks Lodge #1089 and the Minot American Legion Post #26. Surviving family includes: wife of 63 years, Valerie, Minot; daughters, Cheryl Priess, Los Angeles, CA, and Terry Roberts, St. Paul, MN; sons, Paul (Jackie) Priess, Missoula, MT, Mark (Dorothy) Priess, Minot; eight grandchildren, Wayne Christensen III, Tera Priess, Matthew and Jamison Roberts, Bethany and Adrienne Priess, and David and Brian Priess; three great-grandchildren, Noah and Brianna Christensen, and Gabriel Priess; sister-in-law, Margaret Priess; brother-in-law, Mel (Lena) Heere, Minot; and several nieces and nephews.
