Thomas Preston, 91, Minot, ND, died Friday, November 9, 2007, in a Minot nursing home.

Thomas Isaac Preston was born September 20, 1916, the son of William and Mary (Telantyre) Preston in Hebron, Nebraska. He was raised in Nebraska for a time and traveled by horse and wagon with his family to North Dakota. They settled in the Sawyer area, where he attended school.

Tom enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served in Italy and North Africa during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to North Dakota.

Tom was united in marriage to Evelyn Stults October 20, 1947. He worked construction, living in Pick City, ND, while working on the Garrison Dam Project. They later moved to Minot, where he worked construction for 25 years and then did janitorial work for 12 years until his retirement.

During his retirement years, Tom enjoyed fishing, reading and taking walks. One of his greatest highlights was playing with his grandchildren and attending their sports events. Tom and Evelyn moved to Brentmoor in September of 2006. They recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary on October 20, 2007.

His loving family includes: wife of 60 years, Evelyn, Minot; daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria (Gary) Benton, Stanton, ND, Dianna (Mike) Watson, Pearland, TX, and Marlene (Neil) Melom, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Karen (Al) Woiwode, Minot, ND, and Steven (Sheila) Watson, Pearland, TX, Sandra (Jerel) Beaugh, Pearland, TX, and Joshua, Adam and Emily Melom, Minot; great-grandchildren, Abby Woiwode, Miranda Hester and Camden Beaugh; numerous nieces and nephews survive.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John James, George, Robert, Hugh Stanley, and Richard Preston.

Funeral: Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Monday from Noon to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
