Olive Josephine Pothen
1912 - 2003 Olive Josephine Pothen, 90, Garrison, formerly of Minot, died Friday at her brother's home in Garrison. She was born August 20, 1912, in Des Lacs, ND, to Elmer and Geneva (Forbragd) Griffin. She was reared and educated in the Des Lacs and Berthold areas and graduated from Des Lacs High School. Following graduation, she worked various jobs in the Minot area. In 1934, she married Lloyd Johnson in Minot. They lived in Minot, Minneapolis and Williston during their marriage. They had one son together, Donald Johnson, whom died in 1945. Her husband died in 1956. While living in Minneapolis she married Robert McPherson. They lived in Minot and Bismarck and were later divorced. In the 1980's, she married Frank Pothen in Bismarck. They lived in Wadena, MN and were also later divorced. She continued living in Wadena for a time before returning to Minot in the early 1990's. She held various jobs throughout the years, including working at Montgomery Wards in Williston and Printing Inc. in Minneapolis. On December 7, 2002, Olive moved to Garrison to live with her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marge Anderson. She was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot. She was very involved in the Democratic Party throughout her life. Olive loved flowers and enjoyed spending time in her flower garden. She enjoyed music, playing the organ and sang in the group "Happiness Is" while she was living in Minot. She was also a member of a square dance club while living in Bismarck. Olive also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was especially proud of her step-great-grandchildren. Survivors: brothers, Richard (Marge) Anderson, Garrison, Lloyd (Janice) Anderson, Minot; sisters, Verna Borud, Laura Wilson, and Inez (DuWayne) Glein, all of Minot, and Lillian Schultz, Elk River, MN; two step-grandchildren, Jonathan (Carrie) Krueger, and Tanya (Tony)Boehler; three step-great-grandchildren, Mara and Charlie Boehler and Daren Krueger and a number of nieces and nephews. Her husband, Lloyd Johnson, son, Donald, stepdaughter, Pat, and her parents preceded her in death. Funeral Service: Tuesday, February 18, 2003, 10:30 am at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot. Visitation: Monday, February 17, 2003, from noon until 7:00pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Riverview Cemetery, Williston, ND, Tuesday, February 18, 2003, at 3:00 pm..
