Dorothy Potee 1916 - 2006

Dorothy Potee, 90, Kenmare, ND, died Thursday, November 30, 2006, in a Kenmare Hospital.

Dorothy Jean Smith was born on July 6, 1916, the daughter of Harry and Minnie (Heath) Smith in Bowbells, ND. She was raised and educated in Bowbells where she attended Bowbells Public School. She graduated from Bowbells High School. She then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND.

Dorothy was married to John H. Potee on June 4, 1943, in Gary, Indiana. They made their home in Hammond, Indiana. She worked for the Social Security Administration in Chicago and retired from there in the early 1980's. John passed away on March 13, 1985. She continued to reside in Hammond, until moving back to North Dakota in 1994, where she lived in an adult foster care facility in Minot until December of 1997. She had resided at the Kenmare Nursing Home since.

She enjoyed league bowling and was a member of the Hammond American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving family includes: brother-in-law, Bill Keller, Flaxton, ND; sisters-in-law, Elaine Mae Smith, Castle Rock, CO, and Benniejean Smith; three nieces and six nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brothers, Douglas and Edsel Smith; and sisters, Ione Keller, Clarice Scott, and Harriett Smith.

Funeral: Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.

Interment: Tuesday at 3:45 pm at Bowbells Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.

Visitation: Tuesday one hour prior to the service at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Bowbells Cemetery.
