Ruth L. Possen • 1929- 2010 Ruth Louise Nash was born November 15, 1929 in Devils Lake, ND to Claude and Beatrice (Nash) Nash. She was raised and educated in Devils Lake and while growing up worked at the Wood Lake Skating Pavilion. Ruth married Richard E. Possen on December 13, 1947 at St. Olaf’s Church in Devils Lake. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm near Oberon, ND, before moving to Devils Lake. They lived in several area towns including Pleasant Lake, Wood Lake, Sheyenne, Mandan, and Jamestown. Together they raised eight children. While living in Mandan she worked at the Colonial Inn and in Jamestown she was employed at the Hitching Post Bar and the Jamestown Hotel. Ruth later worked at Sioux Manufacturing at Fort Totten for several years. Her husband Richard died in 1979 and Ruth retired and moved to Devils Lake. She moved to Sheyenne for a time and then to Minot, where she lived until 2005, when she entered the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva. Ruth was a wonderful seamstress who made clothing for her children, grandchildren and herself. She enjoyed baking and making candies for all of her family and friends at Christmas time. She loved to fish and fished with a bamboo fishing pole. She loved her family and was always there for them. Those who shared in her life, children, Robert (Judy) Possen, West Fargo, ND, Judith Struksnes, Minot, Beatrice Reynolds, Madison, TN, Donald Possen, Nashville, TN, Ronald (Margie) Possen, Washburn, ND, Dennis Possen, Devils Lake, ND and Sandra Possen, West Fargo; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Calerwood, Ballantine, MT; brother, Jack Nash, Devils Lake; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son, James A. Possen; son-in-law, Harold Struksnes; grandson, Richard Struksnes; parents, Claude and Beatrice; sister, Noni Palmer; brothers, Gene and Jim Nash. Memorial Service: Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, ND. Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register book Saturday prior to the service in the church. Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Oberon, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the cystic fibrosis foundation or to the donor’s choice.
