Alan L. Poole 1948 - 2006

Alan L. Poole, 58, 500 54th Ave. SW, Minot, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 in a Minot hospital.

Alan Leo Poole was born August 8, 1948, the son of Leo and Rita (Raszkiewicz) Poole in Cleveland, OH. He was raised in the area and attended a local grade school, before attending Augusta Military Academy in Ft. Defiance, Virginia, at the age of 13. He graduated from the academy in 1967.

He enlisted into the United States Air Force on February 27, 1968. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on February 25, 1972, in Minot, ND. He had been stationed at the Minot Air Force Base, Minot, ND, and Hickum Air Force Base in Hawaii.

Alan was married to Carol Grenstiener in 1969. Together they raised there son, Alan, Jr. They were later divorced.

He had worked for Land's Ambulance and Cenex for a short time, before starting his employment with the City of Minot Fire Department on December 6, 1976. He became a member of the International Association of Firefighters Local 1157.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Lochthowe-Schindler in 1988, in Minot. They continued to make their home in Minot. He had also worked part-time for the Community Ambulance Service for several years, and then Taxi-9000.

He was an avid hobby enthusiast who enjoyed building model railroads and remote controlled airplanes. Alan enjoyed his return trips to the Augusta Military Academy for reunions where he was able to see his many classmates and friends, and also enjoyed taking vacations with his family and friends.

Surviving family includes: wife, Sandra K. Poole, Minot, ND; son, Alan L. Poole Jr., Salt Lake City, UT; stepsons, Billy (Kristi) Schindler and their son, Tyler, and Bobby Schindler, all of Minot; and father, Leo W. Poole, Minot.

Funeral Service: Monday, August 21, 2006 at 10:30 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday, August 20, 2006 from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
