Virginia Carol Poitra 1943 - 2004 Virginia Carol Poitra, 60, 1115 Soo St., Minot, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, in a Minot medical center. Virginia was born July 7, 1943, in Garrison, the daughter of Anton and Viola (Schmitcke) Fix. She was raised and educated in Garrison. She worked at the Coach Café, the Garrison Hotel and the Bakery. Virginia married John "Johnny" Poitra on July 3, 1968 in Washburn, ND. They renewed their wedding vows on December 11, 1979 in Belcourt, ND. They lived in Belcourt for a time, and then they moved back to Garrison, and in March of 1999, they moved to Minot. Johnny died June 28, 2000 in Fargo. Virginia loved to crochet afghans, play hand held games, Bingo and card games. She loved her two cats, Cocoa and Toby. Virginia was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, and the DAVA (Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.) She was a past member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, and St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt. Survivors: Mother, Viola Fix, Garrison; sisters, Goldie Longie, Minot, and Shirley Poitra, Garrison; brother, Robert (Sharon) Fix, Minot; numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John "Johnny" Poitra; father, Anton Fix, one infant son and four brothers. Funeral: Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, ND. Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation will be Monday, March 29, 2004, from noon to 7:00 p.m., with the vigil prayer service Monday at 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
