Nellie H. Pfau 1912 - 2011

Nellie H. Pfau PhotoNellie H. Pfau, 98, of Minot, ND, formerly of Upham passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Unsong Assisted Living.

Nellie H. Davis was born September 7, 1912, a daughter of John Henry and Johannah (Suhren) Davis at Deering, ND. She was raised and educated in the Deering area graduating from Granville HS in 1930. She continued her education at Minot State College where she received her teaching certificate.

Nellie was united in marriage to Theodore (Ted) Pfau August 24, 1937, at rural Upham. Following their marriage they lived and farmed in Deep River Township southwest of Upham raising dairy cattle and small grains. Ted passed away on April 21, 1994.

Nellie began her teaching in rural McHenry County schools. She concluded her 25 year teaching career in Upham where she was the “4th grade teacher.”

She is survived by son: Ted (Dolly) Pfau, Minot; daughters: Pat (Arvin) Swanson, Jeanell “Jenny” (Bruce) Nelson both of Minot; Kathie Thompson, Enumclaw, WA; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Laney Dwello, Minneapolis, MN; Agnes Beeter, Minot; brother: Walter (Eunice) Davis, Sun City West, AZ; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Her parents, her spouse Ted, her brother John, and her sister Gertrude preceded her in death.

Nellie’s family appreciates the professional and compassionate care Nellie received from Unsong and her staff these past 3 ½ years.  We also thank the dedicated staff of Trinity Hospice for their tender concern for all of us.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Nellie’s life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011, 4:00 p.m., at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: July 2, Saturday, 1 hour prior to the Memorial Service at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Burial will take place on a later date at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Upham.

Memorials are preferred to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Building Fund.
