Clara Mae Petterson 1919 - 2003 Clara Mae Petterson, 83, Douglas, ND, died Sunday, November 23, 2003, at a Minot hospital. She was born on December 27, 1919, on the family farmstead rural Douglas, ND, the daughter of Joseph M. and Bonnie (Johnson) Bentley. She was reared and educated in Douglas and later attended Minot Teachers College where she earned her teachers certificate. Clara Mae started teaching in Baldwin, ND in 1945, and later she taught at the Minot Air Force Base. She married Walter Petterson on August 5, 1962, and the couple made their home in Douglas where Clara Mae continued to teach until her retirement. Clara and Walter spent winters in Truth Or Consequences, NM for a few years. Walter died in 1984. Clara Mae was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Douglas, the Rural Mail Carriers Association, Army Mothers, Nifty Fifties, and Rebekahs Lodge. Clara Mae loved reading, music and she was an avid collector. She was thrifty but was very generous with her family. Survivors: sister, June Roberts, Douglas; and her nieces, nephews who she considered her children and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter.
