Vivian Duerre Peterson
1911 - 2005 Vivian Duerre Peterson, 93, Kenmare, ND, went home to be with her Lord on January 12, 2005, at the Kenmare Community Hospital. Vivian Florence Ness was born on September 10, 1911, in Renville County, Stafford Township at the home of her parents, the late Olaf and Catherine (Wert) Ness. She attended grade school one-half mile from her folk's home and completed the eighth grade. She was active in helping with her home duties and gardening. During harvest time she assisted with the cooking and housework in different homes of the community. Later she was employed, as a hired girl in various homes until she went to work at the Kenmare Hospital where she did cleaning, was assistant cook and dinning room hostess. On April 20, 1932, she married Lawrence C. Duerre. Later that fall they moved to Rockford Township where they continued to farm. Vivian and Lawrence had two children, daughter, Vernetta and son, Gene. They were members of the Newport Baptist Church, rural Norma, ND. It was on March 29, 1940, that her husband, Lawrence passed away at his home from leukemia. In the fall of 1940, she moved into Kenmare were she obtained various kinds of work and kept her children in school. She also worked as a clerk at the Model Grocery and Taylors Drug Store. She belonged to the Kenmare Baptist Church and was advisor to the World Wide Girls Guild for several years. She also was involved in Mission Circle and other activities of the church. She faithfully attended the Friendship Bible Coffee Studies. On June 10, 1956, she was married to Percy O. Peterson, rural
Bowbells, but they made their home in Kenmare. Percy helped with
farming interests until his death on December 8, 1972. Survivors: son, Gene Duerre, Kenmare; daughter, Vernetta (Russell) Anderson, Minot; grandchildren, Jeff Duerre, Kenmare, Steven Anderson, Minot, Michael (Diana) Anderson, Las Vegas, NV, Nancy (Paul) Hettwer, Grand Forks, ND; five great-grandchildren, Wesley and Calvin Anderson, Miranda, Jordan and Brandon Hettwer; sister, Nyla Brye, Minot and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Lawrence Duerre and Percy Peterson, infant brother, Andrew, sisters, Ella Ness, Lela Lind, Violet Gilbertson and daughter-in-law, Barbara Duerre. Funeral Service: Monday, January 17, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot. Visitation: Sunday, January 16, 2005, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
