Marvin Peterson, 81, Minot, ND, formerly of Carpio, ND, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, in a Minot nursing home.

Marvin G. Peterson was born March 20, 1927, a son of Jacob and Laura (Ronningen) Peterson, on a farm in rural Carpio, ND. He was raised on the Peterson family farm and graduated from Hartland High School in 1945.

Marvin enlisted in the United States Army December 10, 1950. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged December 9, 1952. He then became a member of the Donnybrook American Legion and had been a member for over 50 years.Marvin married Betty Jones October 29, 1953, in Minot. They made their home in Carpio, where he worked as a mechanic before purchasing a grocery store in 1958.

After retiring from the grocery business, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He continued to reside in Carpio until 2005, when he moved to Minot.

The pride and joy of his life was his family. He especially enjoyed attending their activities.

Surviving family includes: wife of 55 years, Betty, Minot; children, Vickie (David) Pankratz, Doug (Carrie) Peterson, Nancy (Leo) Mora, Bill Peterson, and Patty (Paul) Bloms; daughter-in-law, Dorinda Peterson (Blaine) Huff; grandchildren, Chad, Ross (Allison), and Kyle Pankratz; Derek, Paul, and Lee Peterson; Holly, Lucus, and Alex Bloms; Laura, Jenna, and Grant Peterson, and Sofie Huff; great-grandson, Gus Pankratz; brothers, Harold (Borghild) Peterson, Lloyd (Joyce) Peterson, Don (Helen) Peterson, Jack Peterson; sisters, Gladys Lee, Lois (Glenn) Smith, and Marilyn Payne, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; son, Neil Peterson; and brother, Freeman Peterson.

Family Memorial Service: Monday, January 19, 2009, at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Carpio ND, at a later date in the spring.
