Mae Peterson, 64, Bowbells, ND, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, in her home.

Mae was born on January 1, 1944, in Kenmare, ND, the daughter of William and Annie (Larson) Emmel. She was reared in Kenmare and attended country school in Renville County, Stafford Township, ND.

Mae and John lived in various towns in North Dakota where Mae worked at the Erickson Café in Mohall as a cleaning lady; for Judy Kupser at the motel and JD's lounge in Bowbells. She also helped John run Peterson's Sanitation for a number of years. John passed away in 2006 and Mae
continued to live in Bowbells with her brother, Richard.

Mae loved her many cats and especially enjoyed reading, writing letters and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed collecting stuffed animals and babysitting for Pat Eckert and Joe (Lee) Steffen.

Survivors: sister, Luella Smith, Flaxton, ND; brothers, Richard Emmel, Bowbells, Clifford (Judy) Emmel, and Ed Emmel, Sidney, MT; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Jackie Johnson, Bowbells. She was preceded in death her parents, husband John Peterson, infant daughter, two brothers, Norman and Carl Emmel and sister Marie Dodge.


Memorial Service: Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Bowbells.

Friends may sign a register book one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will take place in the spring at Union Cemetery in Sherwood.
