Leonard James "Jim" Peterson 1939 - 2006

Leonard James "Jim" Peterson, 67, Kenmare, ND, passed away Friday, December 8, 2006, at Trinity Hospital, Minot.

Peterson was born on September 29, 1939, the son of Leonard and Agnes (Hanson) Peterson in Douglas, ND. He graduated from Kenmare High School in 1957.

Peterson enlisted in the US Army on December 5, 1957. He was honorably discharged on December 2, 1960. He reenlisted in the US Air Force on February 13, 1961. He proudly served his country and was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force CM with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He was honorably discharged on August 31, 1979. He retired after 21 years of service.

Peterson married Dawn (Mayote) Lamb on December 20, 1979, in Reno, Nevada. They made their home in Sacramento, CA. He was a self employed Telecommunications Contractor for several years while living in California. Dawn passed away on May 21, 2003. He moved back to North Dakota in 2004, and had resided in Kenmare since.

Surviving family includes: daughter, June (Dennis) Smith and their daughter, Lilliana Dawn Smith of Benton, Kentucky; brothers, Glenn Peterson, Boy River, MN; and Loel Peterson, Bismarck, ND; sister, Donna (Kenny) Christensen, Howard Lake, MN; aunts, Laura Erb, Minot; and Leona (Ray) Zahnow, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peterson was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dawn; brother, Dovovan Peterson, and sister, Lois Ardel Christianson.

Family Graveside Service will take place in June of 2007 at Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.
