Helen M. K. Peterson • 1917 - 2010 Helen Mildred Kristina Johnson was born March 1, 1917 to J. Oscar and Ellen (Oberg) Johnson on the family farm along the Mouse River, east of Tolley, ND, later moving 1 ½ miles east of Tolley. She started school at McKinney and then attended Tolley School, where she graduated in 1935. Helen worked at the Tolley Co-op Store for a time. On February 14, 1940 Helen married Raymond Peterson of rural Norma. Following their marriage they made their home on the Peterson farmstead until 1949, when they moved into Tolley. Raymond passed away on January 3, 1979. Helen moved into Kenmare in 1993 and entered the Kenmare Community Hospital 3 ½ years ago. Helen was a life-member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tolley, where she played piano and organ for 30 years. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, gardening, flowers and spending time with friends and family. Those who shared in her life, son, Curtis (Susan) Peterson, Kenmare; daughters, Karen (Don) Bradley, Minot, Margie (Jim) Hansen, Kenmare, and Julie (Craig) Miller, Redding, CA; grandchildren, Derek Peterson, Troy (Mandy) Bradley, Jason (Tami) Bradley, Joan (Ryan) Paulson, Christy (Monte) Brekhus, Cheri (Bill) Broghammer, Tanya (Sean) Gebauer; five step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Bradley, Averi, Jaxon and Easton Bradley, Grayson Paulson, Chernee and Kendra Brekhus, Madeline, Elise and Lyla Broghammer, Austin Gebauer and five step-great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine (Mert) Malek, Liberty Lake, WA and several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; parents, J. Oscar and Ellen Johnson; brothers, Kenneth and Walter Johnson; sister, Edna Johnson; son-in-law, Sherman Bronderslev and two sisters-in-law. Funeral: Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tolley, ND. Visitation and prayer service: Tuesday, April 13, 2010, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, ND. Helen’s grandchildren Following the funeral we will leave the church in procession to the cemetery. Those not attending the graveside service are invited to begin the lunch and fellowship in the lower level of the church, and the family will join you when they return from the cemetery. Our family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.
