Doris Peterson 1926 - 2006 Doris Peterson, 79, 125-28th St. SW, Minot, ND, died Monday, February 13, 2006, at her residence of natural causes. Doris Tharp was born on February 17, 1926, in Bemidji, Minnesota, the daughter of Clarence I. and Mabel S. Tharp. She was reared and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1944. Doris then attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Fargo, graduating in 1947. On October 12, 1947, she married Donald "Archie" Peterson in Minot. That same year, Doris began her nursing career at Trinity Hospital in Minot. She worked there from 1947 until 1950 and then from 1952 until her retirement in 1984. Over the years she served as nursery room nurse, the head nurse of orthopedics and as an emergency nurse. She also spent 17 years as an instructor at the Trinity Medical Center School of Nursing. In 1984, she was named the North Dakota Nurses Association District Two Nurse of the Year. Doris was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, served on the church council and was a member of the church's women's groups. After her retirement, she volunteered over 40,000 hours for Trinity Medical Center. She received the Minot Sertoma Club Service to Mankind Award in 1995, was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Minot, was past president of the Minot Coterie Women's Federated Club, the Minot Shrine Auxiliary and Trinity Health Auxiliary. She served as president of the Healthcare Auxiliaries of North Dakota from 2000-2002 and was the secretary of that organization. Doris was a member of the women's division of the Minot Country Club, volunteered for the Minot Chapter of the American Red Cross and as a zoo guide for the Roosevelt Park Zoo of Minot. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway. Her husband, Archie, preceded her in death on February 19, 2004. Doris is survived by her sons, Terry A. Peterson, Minot and Bradley D. (Dr. Christine) Peterson, Bismarck, ND; two grandchildren, Andrew Thomas and Lauren Grace, both of Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie, two infant sons, Kim and Scott, and her parents, Clarence and Mabel Tharp. Funeral: Friday, February 17, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND Visitation: Thursday, February 16, 2006, from noon until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church Foundation,
Minot, Trinity Health Foundation and the Rotary Foundation.
