Dale C. Peterson, 82, Minot, formerly of New Town, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in the Good Samaritan Center, Mohall, ND.

Dale was born December 21, 1926 to D.C. and Hazel Mae (Hubbard) Peterson at his maternal grandmother's home in Sawyer, ND. The first eight years of his life he lived with his parents in a homestead shack near Sanish, ND. In 1934 the family moved to the farm south of New Town that he continued to farm until 1995 when he retired. He attended country school the first eight grades and graduated from Sanish High School in 1944.

Dale enlisted in the United States Army in 1946, serving in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He was honorably discharged at the Sandia Special Weapons Depot in April of 1948. He returned to Sanish and assisted his parents on the family farm and also farmed in the Ross area. He attended Interstate College in Fargo one winter and Hanson Auto School one winter. He married Zinie Omar in Stanley in 1952 and they were later divorced. He married Donna Johnson in 1982 in Stanley. He and his wife retired and moved to Minot in June of 1996 where he has resided since.

During his farming years he was a member of a number of local boards and was Secretary Treasurer for 17 years for the New Town Rural Fire Department, which he helped form. He was a Mountrail County Commissioner for 10 years, where he served on the Upper Missouri Health Unit and the Mountrail County Social Services Board. He also helped form the New Town Ambulance District. He was one of the original members of the Lake Sakakawea Walleye Derby in New Town. He was also a member of the American Legion, Beck-Sherven Post #290 in New Town. He looked forward to having lunch once a month with the "Friendship Club" which consisted of old friends and neighbors from the area where he grew up and who now live in Minot. He enjoyed his grandchildren immensely and found great joy in his two great-grandsons. When he was farming he rarely came home without a new "rock" in his pocket that he would look at and enjoy along with cutting rocks and making pretty polished stones.
