Elroy Peterschick • 1923 - 2010 Elroy R. Peterschick was born May 17, 1923, in Hankinson, ND, to Katherine (Zimmerman) Jamtgaard. He was raised on the family farm near Douglas, ND. He attended school through the eighth grade, until he was needed on the farm. Elroy married Kathryn Finkbeiner March 5, 1951. They made their home on the farm near Douglas until 1953, when they moved to Minot. They were blessed with four children, Dean, Debra, Terry and Lori. His wife, Kathryn, passed away September 23, 1983. He worked for The Creamery, Exxon, Ask Inc., Anderson Equipment, General Trading, Bacon Signs, Dakota Meats and Civil Service at the Minot Air Force Base from which he retired in 1986. On July 26, 1987, Elroy married Myrtle Merk in Minot. They moved to San Diego, CA that same year. They also had a summer home in Douglas, ND, where the family shared many happy memories. Elroy was quite the handyman, tinkering around with anything he could. While working at the Minot Air Force Base he invented a tool for painting which he received an award for. On the farm he converted a wheel driven potato picker to hydraulic. He also helped set up farm equipment for the North Dakota State Fair. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie and Moose Lodge in Minot, and the Nifty Fifty’s in Douglas. He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in San Diego, and a former member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot. Elroy and Myrtle enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing cards, auctions and traveling. He also enjoyed fishing, especially with his sons. For the past five years, Myrtle has taken care of our beloved father and grandfather while in a nursing home. Her tenderness, love and patience will forever be appreciated and remembered. Those who shared in Elroy’s life, wife, Myrtle, San Diego, CA; children, Dean (Mary Ann) Peterschick, Surrey, ND, Debra (William) Gookin, Stafford, VA, Terry (Rita) Peterschick and Lori (Dennis) Lahti, all of Minot; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lemoine (Gladys) Jamtgaard, Wheatland, WY, Gordon (Sharon) Jamtgaard, Newport, OR, and Loren (Lorraine) Jamtgaard, Apache Junction, AZ; sister, Lois Pflugradt, Apache Junction, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews. Elroy was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn; great-grandson, Jordis Peterschick; his mother, Katherine Jamtgaard; brother, Donald Jamtgaard; sisters, Evelyn Huber, Dolores Staehr and Agatha Gusey. Funeral: Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.
