J. F. Pennington 1924 - 2008

J. F. Pennington, 83, Pearl City, Illinois, formerly of Granville, passed away Monday, January 21, 2008, in Florence, AZ.

J. F. was born May 26, 1924 in Cabot, Arkansas to J. A. and Ellie Mae (Parks) Pennington. He grew up in Arkansas until he was sixteen when he left and went to Portland, Oregon to work in the ship yards during World War II. While there he met Arlys E. Hiller and they were married May 1, 1945. They settled in Granville, N.D. and lived there until 2005 when they moved to Pearl City, IL to be near their son, daughter and grandchildren.

The couple started wintering in Arizona in 1989 and have done so for the last 18 years, except for the winter of 2006 when he had major surgery and had to stay in Illinois. They so enjoyed Arizona. While in Granville, he owned and operated the City Service, later Gulf Oil, bulk truck and service station, which he had for over 30 years. Arlys died on February 1, 2007.

Survivors: children, Pamela (Barton) Macomber, Stockton, IL and Dennis (Arlyne) Pennington, German Valley, IL; eight grandchildren, Troy (Eileen) McCabe, Rockford, IL, Bryn (Ken) Weiland, Crystal Lake, IL, Quinn ( Amy ) McCabe, Marengo, IL, Aaron (Melissa) Pennington, Lena, IL, April Pennington, Argyle, WI, Jeff (Tanya) Pennington, Mt. Morris, IL, Danielle Macomber, Stockton, IL and Desi Peneva, Stockton, IL; three great grandchildren, Justin, Ashley and Breanna. He is also survived by a brother, Edward "Gene" (Earlene) Pennington, Concord, CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlys, his parents, brothers Lee Pennington and Roy Pennington sisters, Esther Sanders and Floy Wilburn.

Funeral Service: Monday, January 28, 2008, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Granville, ND.

Visitation: Sunday, January 27, 2008, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Burial: Granville Cemetery, Granville.

Officiant: Rev. Don Andrews, Chaplain Trinity Health, Minot
