Ida V. M. Pederson 1911 - 2010
Ida V.M. Pederson was born August 13, 1911, on a farm located in Orlien Township of Ward County, near Makoti, ND. She was one of twelve children born to John and Tilda (Torgerson) Pederson. In 1912, she moved with her family to Minot, and in 1913, they moved to a farm near Sawyer, ND, where she attended Blocker School, north of Surrey. In 1918, they moved to a farm near Deering, ND, where she attended McCoy School. She graduated from the eighth grade in Surrey and then attended Surrey High School. She graduated from Donnybrook High School in 1931. In 1939, she attended French Business School in Minot for 9 months. In January of 1942, she began her employment at the Ward County Courthouse and retired from there on December 31, 1976. Over the years, she had belonged to the following organizations: the Business and Professional Women, the P.E.O., the C.W.U., the Sons of Norway, the Scandinavian Heritage Center, where she volunteered at the Tourist Information Booth, and the First Presbyterian Church and its Naomi Circle and Bible study class. She also volunteered at Trinity Homes, the Ward County Centennial, and the Norsk Hostfest ticket office as well as the Sons of Norway Booth. Ida enjoyed spending time and visiting with her many friends, for which she was very thankful. She also enjoyed traveling to various locations, her favorite being the Holy Land in 1979. Surviving family includes: brother, Vernon Pederson, Fargo, ND, and Glenn Pederson, St. Paul, MN; special niece, Merle Slade, Minot; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
