Verona L. Parizek, 93, Minot, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 in a Minot nursing home.

Verona was born December 10, 1913 in Granite Falls, MN, to Carl Albert and Tilda Elisa (Brockey) Mellum. She moved with her family to Reeder, ND, and then to Minot. She was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School. Following graduation she attended Minot State Business College.

On December 26, 1938, Verona married George M. Parizek in Minot. Following their marriage they farmed north of Minot. In the early 1940's they moved to the Deering area, where they farmed and raised livestock for many years. In 1987 they moved to Minot, and spent numerous winters in Arizona. George died on April 21, 2001.

Verona was a member of the Deering Lutheran Church, Deering, ND and was an active member of the church circle and the Deering homemakers. She was a 4-H leader for a number of years and served as president on the Deering School Board. Verona was National Commander of the United States Army Mother's Organization for four terms and held every office in that organization. She was a member of the Elks Lodge in Minot.

Over the years Verona attended many functions and meetings for the groups and organizations she belonged to. Whenever you were with her you had to have a cup of coffee and a sandwich or a sweet. No one will ever know how many cups of coffee she ever poured. She was a strong-willed, hardworking lady. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be deeply missed.

Those who shared in her life, Sons, Leonard (Sandra) Parizek, Glenburn, Duane Parizek, Mesa, AZ, and Miles (Esther "Essy") Parizek, Minot; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Verona was preceded in death by her husband, George Parizek; an infant son, Robert Adrian Parizek; infant granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Parizek; her parents; sister, Vivian Penne; brothers, Lionel, Earl, Eugene, Gordon and John Mellum.

Funeral: Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Sunday, July 29, 2007 from noon to 5:00 p.m. and Monday, July 30, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
