Rex I. Parish 1921 - 2008

Rex I. Parish, 87, 305 19th St. NW, Minot, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Rex was born on January 11, 1921, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of A.B. and H. Marie (Gausvik) Parish. He was reared and educated in Grand Forks, and graduated from Grand Forks High School in 1941. He then worked in a print shop in Grand Forks for one year before being drafted into the US Army in July of 1942. While in the Army, he worked on the Alaskan (Alcan) Highway and he was honorably discharged in December of 1945.

He married (May) Jean Robertson in Bathgate, ND, on August 8, 1948.

Upon his discharge, he went to work for the City of Grand Forks for six years as a fireman and one and a half years as a policeman.

Rex then worked as a field man and territory supervisor for Cities Service Oil Company, which later became Citgo and then Gulf, for ten and one half years. These years were spent in Grand Forks, Devils Lake, New Rockford, Bismarck, Jamestown and Minot. He moved to Minot in 1964.

After his tenure with Gulf Oil, he went into the insurance business, working for Farmers Insurance Group for the next 20 years, retiring in 1987. They continued to live in Minot and he entered the Trinity Homes in October of 2007.

Rex was an active man. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Minot and served as a Junior and Senior Ward and an usher. Rex also played fast pitch softball, golf, billards, bowled, hunted, fished, loved music and loved to dance. He was also a member of the Elks and the Magic City Lions Club, both of Minot.

Rex is survived by his wife, (May) Jean Parish, Minot; son, Harold Parish, Minot; daughter-in-law, Peggy Maxwell, Tempe, AZ; grandchildren, Chanomi Maxwell-Parish (Frank) Steed, Jeremy Maxwell-Parish and Andrew Maxwell-Parish. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Larry Paul Parish and two brothers, Charles E. Parish and Jacque B. Parish.

Memorial Service will be on July 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND

Visitation: July 8, 2008 from noon till 5p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or All Saints Episcopal Church, Minot.
