Marlyn J. Oustad 1937 - 2011 Marlyn Janice Elvestad was born November 10, 1937 to Elmer and Emma (Kleven) Elvestad in Butte, ND. She was raised on the farm until the mid-50s’ when the family moved to Minot. She went to school until she was 15, when she went to work at the Anderson Nursing Home in Minot to help her family out. Marlyn married Harlan Oustad, January 6, 1956 in Minot. They had four children. She worked at Trinity Hospital as a special diets cook, then was a cook at the Clarence Parker Hotel. She studied Chinese cooking under a then famous Chinese Cook named Eddy Woo. She was very proud of her cooking skills. Eventually, she went to Gordon’s Holiday Spot in Minot and was their Banquet Cook for quite a few years. They moved to Sawyer, ND, where they bought the Sawyer Grocery Store and ran that for a few years. Her husband Harlan passed away on January 6, 1985, and shortly after Marlyn sold the store and retired. Those who shared in her life, Daughters, Luann (Tim) Burtch, Sawyer, ND, Linda (Steve) Johnson, Minot, ND, and Marcia (Reed) Crill, Orangevale, CA; son, Gary (Christine) Oustad, Citrus Heights, CA; grandchildren, Blaine (Jodi) Burtch, Buffie (Neil) Brown, Beth Burtch, Shane Johnson, Sheldon Johnson, Cebrina Nell, Nicholas Nell, Tristan Crill, Ashley Oustad, Dustin Oustad and ; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great granddaughter; brother, Evan (Agnes) Elvestad, Foxholm, ND; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marlyn was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan; her parents, Elmer and Emma; brothers, Norman and Ronald Elvestad. Funeral: Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. Visitation and prayer service: Visitation Thursday, January 5, 2012, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., both at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND. The family invites you to join them for coffee and desserts and reminiscing at the Sawyer Senior Center from 2 to 4 pm Friday afternoon.
