Selma "Sally"
Orndorf 1913 - 2006 She was born Nov. 3, 1913, in Artesian, SD, a daughter of Osmunda (Sandvik) and Osten Hetland. She was reared and educated in rural schools at Artesian and at Deering, ND, where she moved with her family in 1927. She married Roscoe Orndorf in 1932. They lived and farmed at Deering for two years before moving to Minot where they continued to make their home. Mr. Orndorf worked for Minot trucking companies prior to his death in 1976. Sally joined her mother in the operation of the luncheonette in the lower level of the Ward County Courthouse, later running the restaurant on her own. For many years, the little eatery was a popular gathering place for courthouse employees as well as for other downtown workers in the neighborhood. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Minot and had been active in the church women's groups. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and served a term as president in 1958. In 1973, she and her husband were named recipients of the Mr. and Mrs. Eagles Award. In earlier years, when their daughter was in school, she was active in the Parent-Teacher Association. Sally was a spirited woman. She had a great deal of enthusiasm and energy. She had a wide circle of friends with whom she shared laughter, good times and good stories. She had been a resident at Trinity Homes, Minot, since 1996. Survivors: daughter Phyllis Skogstad and her husband Ronald, 3307 Veld Way, Cameron Park, CA 95682; granddaughters, Susan Kriesel, Cathy Housel, Teresa Thomas and Rhonda Scheller; five great-grandchildren, Jeff Deitch, Nick Kriesel, Rick Scheller, Micheal Scheller, and Laura Deitch; brothers, Milton Hetland and Earl Hetland, both of rural Deering; sister-in-law, Elaine Hetland, Deering and Dahlen, ND, brother-in-law, James Clute, Minot; a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ida Bagley and Ione Clute, and a brother, Art Hetland. Funeral Service: Burial will be Monday at 1 p.m. at
Sunset Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will follow Monday
at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Trinity Homes. Officiates; Pastor John Streccius, Zion Lutheran Church,
