Lillian H. Orndorf 1917 - 2009

Lillian Orndorf PhotoLillian H. Orndorf, 92, Velva, ND, formerly of Minot, ND, died Saturday, December 5, 2009, at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Lillian H. Melby was born August 19, 1917, to Gustin O. and Lillie (Harris) Melby, in Minot.  She was raised on the family homestead farm, which her grandparents had homesteaded southeast of what is now, Minot, in 1881. She had lived on the homestead until the last few years of her life.

Lillian married Alton H. Orndorf, of Deering on June 27, 1936. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary shortly before his death in 1996.

She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Minot.

Lillian loved being out-of doors, gardening and planting. In her younger days, she enjoyed hunting and fishing. She also loved reading, quilting, crocheting, embroidery, and was an excellent seamstress. Most important to her life was her family and the farm.

Surviving family includes:  daughter, Sharlotte Reddick, Minot; grandchildren, Marilyn (Tom) Burtch, James Ross, Robert Teets, Brian (Missy) Warren, Michelle (Duey) Bridges, all of Minot, and Jeffrey Warren, Westhope, Dalton (Janice) Ross, Fargo, and Kimberly Carter, Wilburton, OK; 12 great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alton; son, Alton G. Orndorf; and daughters, Sherry Warren and Bonnie Orndorf, and an infant granddaughter, Jeannette Teets.

A Private Family Service has been planned.

There will be no public reviewal.

Interment:  Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
