Gladys Lucille Oppen 1908 - 2003 Gladys Lucille Oppen, 94, 600 South Main St. Minot, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, in a Minot nursing home. Gladys was born October 31, 1908 in Bowdon, ND, the daughter of Ole and Bertha Sorteberg. She was raised and educated at Bowdon, ND. She married Richard Oppen in 1928. Together the couple owned and operated grocery stores in Minot and other towns in North Dakota. Gladys did the bookkeeping for the stores. Richard died in 1964. Gladys continued to live in Minot until her death. Gladys was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot, where she sang in the choir and belonged to the ladies aid. She was a member of the Minot Country Club, and loved playing golf and bridge. She had a great Norwegian sense of humor and a very soft heart. She was also a member Elks in Minot. Survivors: Numerous nieces and nephews survive. Gladys was preceded in by her husband, Richard; her parents, and brother, Oliver Sorteberg. Funeral: Monday, April 21, 2003, at 2:30 p.m., at First Lutheran Church Chapel, Minot, ND. Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register one hour prior to the service at First Lutheran Church Chapel, Minot. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
