Walter Franklin Olson 1931 - 2004

Walter Franklin Olson, 72, Kenmare/Bowbells area farmer, died Saturday, February 14, 2004, at the Kenmare Community Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Walter was born December 7, 1931, rural Coteau, ND, on the old homeplace south of Coteau, the son of Edna and Fred Olson. He attended country school, then the Coteau School. Due to his father's early death, Walter became a farmer rather early in life, making many sacrifices along the way.

On June 4, 1953, Walter married DeLoris Ann Lindquist in Niobe, ND. Together they were blessed with three daughters, Wanda, Nancy and Sharlene. They raised their family on their farm near Bowbells/Kenmare. He lived and worked on the farm which was the pride and joy of his life, raising both grain and cattle. DeLoris died on January 23, 1997. Walter continued to live on the farm until November 2001, when he entered the Kenmare Baptist Home. In November of 2002, Walter was diagnosed with lung cancer. In January of 2003 he entered the Kenmare Hospital.

Walter was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bowbells. He was a past board member of Roseland Township. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He especially enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchild who were the "Apple of His Eye."

His loving family includes, daughters, Wanda (Neil) Olaf, Williston, Nancy (Arnold) Bounting, Kenmare, and Shar (Matt) Grigsby, Minot, grandchildren, Jeremy Bounting, Minot, Pam (Doug) Sherrodd, Kenmare, Mataya and Samiah Grigsby, Minot; great-grandchild, Cassandra-Ann Sherrodd, Kenmare; sisters, Marcy "Ethel" Menzie, Fargo, Agnes (Roy) Frick, Watford City, Alvina (Dennis) Overton, Kenmare; brothers, Norman (Karen) Olson, Bowbells and Ruben Olson, Kenmare; several nieces and nephews also survive. Walter was preceded in death by his wife, DeLoris and his parents.

Funeral: Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, BOWBELLS, ND.

Visitation and Vigil Prayer Service: Visitation will be Tuesday, February 17, 2004, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Visitation on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bowbells.

Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.
