Ronald C. Olson 1935 - 2002 Ronald C. Olson, 67, 20 Cortland Dr., Minot, died unexpectedly Friday, September 27, 2002, in a Minot hospital of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. He was born August 21, 1935, in Minot, ND, the son of Claude A. and Marjorie A. (Chase) Olson. He was reared and educated in Deering and graduated from Deering High School in 1953. He worked for the Chilson Farm, where he grew to love the land. In 1958, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, with a degree in Engineering. He married Sharon Elaine Moffet on July 26, 1958, in Richmond, IN. Ron spent 21 years in the United States Army serving various posts at home and overseas, including two years in Vietnam. He taught R.O.T.C. at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and served in the 2nd of the 503rd Infantry in Okinawa and the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, NC. He attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA, and was a Tactical Officer in the 3rd Regiment at West Point. Ron retired in 1979, after serving as Battalion Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 81st Division Artillery at Strasberg Kaserne in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany. He was a decorated Officer, having achieved the rank of Colonel and earning the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. Ron returned with his family to his beloved North Dakota and settled in Crosby, where he was active in the community for 16 years. He was a partner at Northwest Farm Service, served as Governor of the Moose Lodge, elected as Municipal Court Judge, and was a member and served on the Council of Concordia Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Legion and Commander of the local V.F.W. He was a charter member of the Divide County Dollars for Scholars Program. He was appointed to the North Dakota Parole and Pardon Boards by Governors Schaeffer and Hoeven, serving from 1994, to the present. In 1997, he and Sharon moved to Minot to be closer to family. Ron was a devoted grandfather who was proudly involved in his grandchildren's lives. He was an avid reader, who enjoyed discussing politics and researching his genealogy. He was greatly loved by his family and will be forever in their hearts.
