Lloyd A. Oslon 1913 - 2003 Lloyd A. Olson , 90, Bottineau, formerly of Willow City, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 in a Bottineau Hospital. Lloyd A. Olson, a son of Paul and Carrie (Swensgard) Olson, was born on the family farm in Wellington Township, Bottineau County on May 9, 1913. He was reared and attended country school there. In 1935, he began his life's work-farming, and continued for seven years, when in July of 1942, he was called into the service of our country, serving in the United States Army Air Corps. He received his basic training at Sheppard Field, Texas. He was then stationed at the Newark, New Jersey Air Base, later going to North Carolina, Georgia and Staten Island, then on to Calcutta, India and the Burma Air Base, where he served most of his overseas time in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant in February of 1946 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He married Anna Grace Craig in Newark, New Jersey on June 6, 1944. They returned to his farm and resumed farming for the next 43 years. The farm later became one of the centennial farms of North Dakota in Bottineau County. Anna died on August 6, 1998. Lloyd was a 50 year member of the American Legion Post #112, Willow City, served on the Willow City Elevator board for nine years as one of it's directors. Lloyd was also clerk for Wellington Township for 24 years. During the winter months, Lloyd did carpentry work and played piano or organ. When Lloyd retired, Lloyd and Anna moved into a house that Lloyd built in Willow City. Survivors: one brother, Dr. C.P. Olson, of Minot; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Roy (Emma) Olson, Minot; three nieces, Mary Knoll, Gail Swanson and Grace Neadou; three nephews, Richard P. Olson, Dr. David C. Olson and James W. Olson, along with a number of great nieces and nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Mrs. Arline Getzlaff, brothers, Roy and Theodore and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Clarence Irene Olson.
