Gene (Martin) Olson 1915 - 2002 Gene (Martin) Olson, 87, 1414 Hiawatha Street, Minot, ND, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002 in a Minot Hospital. Gene was born on July 13, 1915 on the family farm north of Drake, ND, to Martin B. and Olene M. (Moen) Olson. He attended grade school at Guthrie, ND and graduated from Drake High School in 1933. He began farming the family farm in September of 1940 and later purchased the farm from his parents in 1946. He served on the Guthrie School Board for some years. He was elected to the board of directors of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Velva, ND in 1946 and served 51 years as an agent and later as a director. He was once married to Kathryn Waltz. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Drake and served on the church board for some years. He took up residence in Minot, ND in September of 1962 and purchased a home in Minot in 1993; after selling the farm, he began working for Sunset Memorial Gardens and later took over as manager and owner. He later married Florence Pritz of Minot, ND. A son Robert preceded him in death. Gene loved horses and showed horses at local fairs, he won many prizes and trophies. Gene was a member of the Sons of Norway, Minot, the Republican Party, First Presbyterian Church, Minot; the Elks and the Loyal Order of Moose both of Minot and was one of the founding members of the Eagles Aerie in Harvey. Survivors: wife, Florence, Minot; daughter, Yonne Lindblad of Fargo; step daughters, Paulette Casey of Bellingham, WA, Barbara Stanton of White Bear Lake, MN. Several grandchildren, and several step grandchildren and several great grandchildren; brother, Russell Olson, Harvey along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Several brothers and sisters, preceded him in death. Funeral: Saturday, December 14, 2002, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Minot, North Dakota Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND Visitation: Friday, 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
