Esther Olson 1923 - 2011 Esther Erna Werre was born March 8, 1923, a daughter of Albert and Christina (Hoffman) Werre, in New Leipzig, ND. She was raised and educated in New Leipzig, where she graduated from high school. She then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where she received her Standard Teaching Certificate. She later attended Dickinson State College and received a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She began her teaching career in New Leipzig, then in Elgin and later taught typing classes at Minot High School. Esther married Kenneth R. Olson July 6, 1957, at First Presbyterian Church in Minot. When they started their family, she retired from teaching to take care of her two children. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Minot, where she served as a deaconess. She was truly one-of-a-kind. She loved God and her family. She was the most incredible cook – onion buns, pickles and German küchen were her “specialties.” She was known around the country for her fantastic “care packages” – loaded with love in the form of food. She took delight in her flowers and her vegetables – canning and freezing all fall for friends and family to enjoy throughout the year. Esther will be missed by all who knew her. Her family takes comfort knowing that she was greeted at the pearly gates of heaven by our Savior, Jesus Christ, and her beloved son, Jerry. Surviving family includes: husband of 54 years, Kenneth, Minot; son, Glen (Amanda) Olson, Minot; daughter-in-law, Janelle Olson, Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Teague and Preston Olson; and Austin and Taylor Olson; brother, Almore (Janet) Werre, Boston, MA; sisters-in-law, Greta Werre, Bismarck, ND, and Frances Werre, Wahpeton, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
