Cyril Norman "Cy"
Olson 1947 - 2003 Cyril Norman "Cy" Olson, 56, Minot, died Wednesday, August 27, 2003, in his home. Cyril was born August 20, 1947, in Minot, ND, the son of Norman Cyril and Elaine (Becktold) Olson. He was raised and educated in Minot and Burlington. As a young man he worked with his father on the milk truck for Purity Dairy. He married Kathy Burkhardsmeier on December 12, 1964, and to that union Jamie Olson was born on July 22, 1965. They later divorced. Cy was employed at Jack Bender Construction, Robinson Insulation, Westlie Motor Company and Minot Muffler. He purchased the Muffler Shop in Minot in 1989, which he owned and operated until 1994, when he sold the company. He then drove taxi cab for Taxi 9000 for a time and later worked at Security Fence. In January of 2000 he purchased S.E. Muffler, along with his son, Jamie and their friend Daren, which he co-owned up until his death. Cy loved spending time with children and totally enjoyed his family, especially his nieces and nephews. At a young age he began working on cars and was creative with his mechanical talents. Cy touched everyone with his tender heart and smile. Survivors: Son, Jamie Olson, Minot; special friend, Violet Hase and her children, Ernest, Timothy, Lacey and Frankie; stepfather, Bill Nelson, Minot; brothers, LaVern Olson and special friend, Lynette Ofsthun, and Andy Olson and special friend, Cindy Trottier, all of Minot; sisters, Audrey (Arnie) Grosz, Chandler, AZ, and Lisa Maloney and fiancé, Daren Schilling, Minot; numerous nieces and nephews survive. Cy was preceded in death by his parents, Norman C. Olson and Elaine Olson Nelson, and his grandparents. Funeral: Saturday, August 30, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, Minot, ND. Visitation: Friday, August 29, 2003, from noon to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
